General

What is Geilio Scoreboard?

Geilio Scoreboard is a scoring app built specifically for racket sports. It lets you track badminton, table tennis, and pickleball matches in real time using your iPhone and Apple Watch. The app knows the official scoring rules for each sport, tracks serves and sides automatically, and can display live scores on a nearby iPad for spectators. Whether you are a casual player keeping score for a friendly game or a referee running a club tournament, Geilio Scoreboard handles the scorekeeping so you can focus on the match.

What sports does Geilio Scoreboard support?

Geilio Scoreboard currently supports three racket sports:

  • Badminton -- Rally scoring to 21, with deuce rules and service court tracking.
  • Table tennis -- Scoring to 11, with automatic serve rotation every 2 points (and every point at deuce).
  • Pickleball -- Side-out scoring with serve tracking for both singles and doubles.

Each sport comes with its official rules built in. You select your sport before the match starts, and Geilio Scoreboard handles the rest.

Is Geilio Scoreboard free?

Yes. Geilio Scoreboard is free to download and use. The free version includes full match scoring for all three sports, Apple Watch support with tap scoring, serve tracking, and the ability to undo mistakes. You can score complete matches without paying anything.

Geilio Scoreboard Pro is an optional upgrade that adds advanced features like additional Watch interaction modes, voice announcements, match history, custom team names, dynamic backgrounds, and more. In addition, iPad Cast is a separate in-app purchase that is not included in Pro, and Ad-Free is its own separate purchase too -- though buying Pro also removes ads.

What languages does Geilio Scoreboard support?

Geilio Scoreboard is available in six languages:

  • Simplified Chinese
  • Traditional Chinese
  • English
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • German

On first launch, the app uses your device language as the initial language, but from then on it stays on whatever language you choose in the app. It does not keep following the system language, and there is no "Follow System" option -- you can switch at any time in Settings.

What devices do I need?

At minimum, you need an iPhone running a recent version of iOS. That is enough to score matches using the touch screen.

For the best experience, pair your iPhone with an Apple Watch so you can score from your wrist without picking up your phone. You can also connect an iPad to display live scores for spectators.

All devices need to be part of the Apple ecosystem. Geilio Scoreboard is not available on Android.

Apple Watch

Do I need an Apple Watch to use Geilio Scoreboard?

No. The iPhone app is fully functional on its own. You can tap the score areas on your iPhone screen to add points, double-tap a score area to undo the last point, and use the center Tools panel to reset the score, swap the two sides, or switch the server manually -- all without a Watch.

That said, the Apple Watch is where Geilio Scoreboard really shines. Being able to score with a quick tap on your wrist means you never have to stop play to reach for your phone.

How do I score on my Apple Watch?

In the free version, you tap the screen on your Apple Watch to add a point for either player. The Watch display shows both scores and who is serving.

With Geilio Scoreboard Pro, you get two additional scoring methods:

  • Swipe mode -- Swipe up or down to award a point to either player (only vertical gestures score; left and right swipes flip between pages).
  • Digital Crown mode -- Rotate the crown to add a point to one side.

All scoring actions on the Watch sync instantly to your iPhone (and to any connected iPad).

What if my Watch disconnects during a match?

Geilio Scoreboard is designed to handle brief connectivity drops gracefully. If your Apple Watch loses its connection to your iPhone, it will continue tracking scores locally. When the connection is restored, the scores sync back up.

For the most reliable experience, keep your iPhone within normal Bluetooth range of your Apple Watch during matches.

Can I use the Watch independently without my iPhone?

The Apple Watch app is designed to work as a companion to the iPhone app, and it needs a paired iPhone for the initial install and setup. That said, the Watch has a full settings page of its own, so you can adjust things like the score cap, common target scores, the number of games (1/3/5/7), the sport, singles/doubles, sync mode, referee mode, interaction mode, and haptic strength right on your wrist; with Pro, you can also use Quick Setup on the Watch. Once a match is underway, the Watch handles scoring input while staying in sync with the iPhone.

iPad Display

How do I display scores on an iPad?

iPad Cast is a separate in-app purchase (not included in Pro). Once you buy it and turn on iPad Cast from your iPhone, Geilio Scoreboard broadcasts the live score to any iPad running the Geilio Scoreboard app on the same local network -- and an iPad can enter receiving Display Mode for free. The iPad shows a big, clear score display that is easy to read from across a gym or court.

Do the devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi?

Yes. Your iPhone and iPad need to be connected to the same local network for the live score display to work. This is how the devices discover each other and keep the score in sync in real time.

Can multiple iPads display at the same time?

Yes. You can connect multiple iPads to a single iPhone, and each iPad will display the live score independently. This is useful for tournaments where you want one iPad courtside for players, another at the tournament desk, and a third for spectators -- all fed from the same scoring source.

Scoring and Rules

Does Geilio Scoreboard know the official scoring rules?

Yes. When you select a sport, Geilio Scoreboard automatically applies the correct scoring rules. This includes the score limit for each game, how many games make up a match, serve rotation rules, and side-switching rules. You do not need to configure these manually -- just pick your sport and start playing.

What happens at deuce?

Geilio Scoreboard handles deuce automatically based on the sport:

  • Badminton -- When the score reaches 20-20, a player must win by 2 points. If the score reaches 29-29, the next point wins the game.
  • Table tennis -- When the score reaches 10-10, a player must win by 2 points. Serve alternates every point during deuce instead of every 2 points.
  • Pickleball -- Pickleball uses side-out scoring, so deuce situations are handled differently. The game continues until one side reaches the winning score with the required lead.

You do not need to remember any of these rules. Geilio Scoreboard tracks the state and updates serve indicators accordingly.

How does serve tracking work?

Geilio Scoreboard tracks which player (or which side, in doubles) is serving and updates the indicator automatically after each point based on the rules of the sport you are playing. For example, in table tennis the serve switches every 2 points, while in badminton the serve goes to the rally winner.

You can also tap the serve indicator manually if you need to correct it -- for example, if you started the match with the wrong player serving.

The serve indicator -- including the inner glow highlight style -- can be turned on for free to mark which side is currently serving. With Geilio Scoreboard Pro, doubles matches additionally show the specific server position (left/right side).

Can I customize the score limit?

Geilio Scoreboard uses the official score limits for each sport by default (21 for badminton, 11 for table tennis, and so on). If your league or club uses different rules, you can adjust the match format in settings before starting a match.

Pro Features

What do I get with Geilio Scoreboard Pro?

Geilio Scoreboard Pro unlocks a set of advanced features on top of the free app:

  • Additional Watch interaction modes -- Swipe and Digital Crown scoring on Apple Watch.
  • Voice score announcements -- Hear the score called out after every point with customizable voice, speed, and pitch.
  • Match history -- Full records of past matches with timeline views and score charts.
  • Custom team names -- Replace the default Blue/Red labels with real player or team names.
  • Dynamic backgrounds -- Animated backgrounds that look great and help prevent screen burn-in.
  • Advanced serving indicator -- Shows the specific server position in doubles (the basic serve indicator and the inner glow highlight style are free).
  • Quick setup wizard -- Fast match configuration directly on Apple Watch.

Note: iPad Cast is a separate in-app purchase and is not included in Pro; Ad-Free is its own separate purchase too (though buying Pro also removes ads). Also, encouragement phrases are a free hidden easter egg (unlocked by tapping the version number 10 times on the "About" page, and only active when the interface is in Simplified or Traditional Chinese) -- no Pro required.

For a detailed look at each feature, see the Pro Features overview.

Is there a subscription or is it a one-time purchase?

Geilio Scoreboard Pro is available as a purchase through the App Store. Check the app for current pricing and purchase options. The separate ad-free option is also available through the App Store as its own purchase.

Can I try Pro features before buying?

The free version of Geilio Scoreboard gives you a complete scoring experience so you can see the quality of the app before deciding to upgrade. You get full match scoring for all three sports, Apple Watch tap scoring, serve tracking, and undo functionality. Pro features like voice announcements and match history are available once you upgrade, while iPad Cast and Ad-Free are each separate purchases (not included in Pro).

Compared to Alternatives

How is Geilio Scoreboard different from a generic counter app?

Generic counter apps let you tap a button to increment a number. That is all. Geilio Scoreboard is purpose-built for racket sports, which means it understands the actual rules of the game you are playing. It handles deuce automatically, tracks serve rotation, knows when a game or set ends, and switches sides when required. You also get an Apple Watch companion, iPad spectator display, voice announcements, and match history -- none of which a simple counter provides.

If you just need to count things, a counter app works. If you are scoring a real match, Geilio Scoreboard saves you from having to remember and manually apply every rule.

Why not just use a physical scoreboard?

Physical scoreboards work, but they have limitations:

  • Someone has to stand next to the scoreboard and flip numbers manually, which means they cannot also be playing or watching comfortably.
  • Physical boards do not track serves, deuce rules, or side switches.
  • There is no match history -- once the game is over, the score is gone.
  • They are bulky to carry and set up, especially if you play at different venues.

Geilio Scoreboard fits on your wrist. You score with a tap, the rules are applied automatically, the score is visible on iPhone and iPad simultaneously, and every match is saved. For most recreational and club play, it is a simpler and more capable solution.

What makes Geilio Scoreboard better for referees?

Referees benefit from several features that are specifically designed for officiating:

  • Apple Watch scoring -- Keep your hands free and your eyes on the court. A quick tap, swipe, or crown turn is all it takes to record a point.
  • Automatic rule enforcement -- Serve rotation, deuce handling, and set transitions happen without manual intervention, reducing the chance of human error.
  • Voice announcements -- Call the score out loud automatically so players hear it without the referee needing to shout.
  • iPad display -- Give spectators and players a clear view of the score without the referee holding up a board.
  • Undo -- Made a mistake? Reverse the last action instantly instead of trying to remember what the score was.

For referees managing multiple matches at a club night or tournament, the combination of Watch scoring, automatic rules, and iPad display makes officiating faster and less error-prone.
